El Raval

The Raval extends on the south side of the Rambla almost up to Montjuic. The word comes from Arabic and means suburb.

Raval was originally outside the city walls and housed during the industrialization of the large factories in addition to houses for the workers. Accordingly, the time was the high population density.

The lower part of Raval was formerly known as Barri Xines - boulevard and red light district. Although the city already (by the construction of the Rambla de Raval ) and today attempted by structural measures to improve the image of the district, it is the image of a quarter, not quite nefarious going on. Here, the upper part has now become a real trendy neighborhood with a large art / Skater-/Theater- and fashion scene. Here are also the modern MACBA and CCCB.

In contrast to the Barri Gotic, that's very touristy, is found in the Raval daily life in the midst of an ancient city. Mainly immigrants and artists live here.

Do not miss this wonderful area, but without leadership it is hard to find the nice places. German management, it is walking in www.paseo-barcelona.de

Barri Gotic

The Gothic quarter stretches on the north side of the Ramblas and Via Layetana between Rambla to Plaza Catalunya bis zum Meer.

Our Lady of Montserrat

If you want to take a trip into the countryside around Barcelona can take the train to Montserrat and visit the Benedictine monastery of Santa Maria and then a little walk. Even from a distance we see the 1,200-meter Berg. The mountain offers a magnificent view over the whole area.

A brief history : found

According to legend, the "La Moreneta", the little brown one, to 880 from a shepherd boy in a cave. The bishop wanted to bring to Manresa, but failed because it was too difficult apparently. So they interpreted this to mean that they wanted to remain at the site and built the Hermitage of Santa Maria.
Lange was also puzzled why the statue is black, candle soot, wonder ,...? Result: it is painted.

Getting to Montserrat:
From Barcelona, we take the train (FGC - Ferrocarril de la Generalitat de Catalunya), the R5 line to Manresa.

Get off either at "Aeri de Montserrat" and they take the cable car, or at "Monistrol de Montserrat" and take the cog railway, which hinaufschlängelt curl the mountain.

more information and hours can be found here:

Los Reyes Magicos

The holy Three Kings in Spain have a much greater significance than in Germany. The children receive their gifts on Epiphany (when they were good, if not there is a piece of coal) and there are big parades in the cities.

Send to Barcelona, the three kings at the port of their ship. There, they receive the name of the children and make a little speech.

Then it goes in a big train through the city, where they eject sweets. Thousands of people are on edge and cheer them. Comparable to this move with a big parade here in Germany - only high class.

So if a Barcelona Travel plans, it pays to be here, the move is it really worth it to Epiphany.

Barcelona World Race

Barcelona World Race 2007 Una nueva aventura
Comienza en Barcelona

= A new adventure starts in Barcelona, the motto of the World Race and that's true for us too.

The Barcelona World Race is a new two-handed race, non-stop around the world. The world's best sailors will participate in 9 teams

The route from Barcelona to West Africa to South America to Cape Horn, then continue to New Zealand, south to Australia and back past the Cape of Good Hope to high in West Africa again in Spain to arrive (in about 3 months).

That's the theory. And when will the show? The day after our pub crawl early by 10 clock. We struggle hard to get so out of bed, drink coffee and are at half past ten on the mat. Since we know not how and where we go first to the port (Port Vell) to the boat show and ask where to start at all.

Barceloneta also (I really have to put inside a card once, that ye knows where that is -> soon, I promise).

We secure a place on a pier in the first row and wait. Eating a Bocadillo drink plenty of water and wait and sit in the sun. People are more and more. The boats are also more and more forward (the oh-so-important VIPs are so moved by boat to the sea, because there's a better look). Sometimes it crosses a promotional sailing ship around before us. The Coast Guard regulates the traffic by sea, so that participants can freely sail from the harbor, we believe. And the helicopters (6 in all) and watch circles, and film the ganzo from above.

And we? Wait.
some point, is behind us pretty busy, we see a blue flare far ahead of us where all the VIP ships and boats are now advertising. Well seems to be the starting signal. But ... nothing happens.

A German fans behind us said.?... "Well, we are closer rankommen not well"

Huh ¿

wait

we go People

We wait

Ships are less

. Hmmm ... let's go.

Yes, that's it. The start was at sea. The advertising boats were participating sailing boats and we knew nothing and saw having all the time. Thank God got me photos of the advertising boats, that is made sailboats. am a bit disappointed.

waiting But only. In 3 months they come back and I'm still here. And then they have to port.

We wait.

.....

The regatta is coming to Barcelona - you can not miss this event and get the time for a vacation in this beautiful city. Look at the opportunity and the Barrios Gotico and Raval, it's worth it. German gives guided tours are available at: www.paseo-barcelona.de

Champions League madness

on the board of FC Barcelona this Wednesday is at Glasgow Rangers. This means for me not really a bad game, I want to see it then, but nothing more.

Well I was wrong. On Tuesday there are signs of greater things. Since we live so in the old town, we go for shopping on the Rambla to Carrefour. As in the whole town was full and there of mostly drunken Glasgow fans. But not only types 20 to 30 Everything is here: young people, girls, women, old ... weggesoffen And everything. Not even 2 cans of San Miguel have they left us worn out and the beer Pallettenweise.

The next day the same game. At the Placa Catalunya, we went to, something I have not seen yet. As at a festival. All over Scotland and Scottish flags, drunken football fans with a pallet of beer cans or megaphone armed. And I really do not overdo. On the Marienplatz in the championship celebration goes quietly to the Bayern. The police have even regulated the traffic lights in addition to traffic and BCNeta (garbage removal) allows the access. They had to push extra shifts. The mob pulled down the whole Rambla. Nadine was in Carrefour and there was absolutely no beer.

wrote in the newspaper she also above:

The "hooligans" left with the beer Barcelona
The followers of Glasgow Rangers, who came for the Champions League game in Barcelona, exhausted yesterday the beer stocks of different establishments (shops and Bars halt) on the Ramblas. The Government tolerated the fans on the streets drinking alcohol, to avoid serious conflicts.

... Accordingly, it

has been seen on the street. Everywhere singing, puking, pissing, sleeping, tottering, ... fans and the legacy. Surprised I was and that some could still take pictures, and many apparently wanted to see the game in the stadium. The whole thing was so in the afternoon.

the more I naturally wanted to see the game in the evening. Actually, I'm still able to toast always in search of a typical English bar, with like-minded Barca. But yesterday I wanted to but in one of the many Irish bars. I let me not miss it.

So we moved them after the dinner and looked for the Temple-bar from close to the Rambla. Yesterday were all Irish pubs bouncer. I wonder why. Before the bar we met a British woman and heard more puking already celebrating a goal, because we were a little late. The bar was of course the majority in blue (and not the Barca-Blue) and they were singing, drinking, gesticulating, swearing (fuck, fucking, ..., the most common words) and in the middle we do. I even cheer Darft again (Score: Barcelona 2 - 0 Glasgow) and was 2x addressed if I was as Spaniards. But in the bar, everything went off peacefully. Even after the game, they just went to other bars and are likely to continue drinking. I've seen today only in the metro rather tired Scottish faces on the way to the train station / airport.

Further data from the newspaper:

  • about 20 000 fans at the Placa Catalunya and the Ramblas
  • were only 6,000 in the stadium
  • Carrefour was the beer and vodka from
  • the famous Bar Zurich Plaça Catalunya has on Wednesday as a precaution closed because it has given on Tuesday incidents
  • in a bar (not mentioned name) they drank in 2 days 12 000 liters of beer in 2 days

Well, that sounds like a big party, right?
As I said, I'm playing football and festivals have seen some, but something ...

Looking forward to more Champions League duels, when the Scots top it no longer even.

have unfortunately seen the drunken football fans not much of Barcelona. Do not make the same mistakes and see this beautiful city in peace, maybe with a guided walk through the old German neighborhood? www.paseo-barcelona.de

What Is Stomach Bubbling

Sunday at the Cathedral

This Sunday's it so far, we are the first time in the church left. And if they did, then of course in the same cathedral .
We have only a few minutes there, so we're of course a few minutes late. When we come then not also the cloister because the door shut off, and we must use the main entrance, goes back some time.
When we finally have a place in it and is already converting. You think safe now, look at the two, half an hour late, but think. The church takes as only half an hour. Because every hour is a God serves. So we
go to Communion, bring us the blessing and is already closing again. Strangely, I find only that the priest speaks Catalan, even though we are gone by 12 extra clock in the English show. Later it becomes apparent that we have forgotten the switch to summer time and
arrived in the Catalan mass at 11 clock. Well if all the class begins a mass, it can sometimes confuse . Come

Church in the Cathedral is quite an experience. That's a huge building. Because of the Regensburg Cathedral looks like a chapel. Not only that the cathedral is large, it also has a cloister with a courtyard where a fountain and ducks running around. One can see
often on postcards. In the church is well within established a choir, so that you only have a direct view in the front of the altar, which sits above a crypt where the ever wider stairs. But in the back of a screen is attached to the columns and flat panel displays depend on where the show is transmitted. Pretty wicked anyway.

can visit the cloister of the Cathedral before 13 and free after 17 clock. (TIP) Close your visit to the cathedral but in a walk through the beautiful Barri Gotic. route and is a guided walk, visit www.paseo-barcelona.de

Montjuic

On Sunday the weekend of the Festival de la Pilar (see previous post) are the girls in the WG not there. So we have this time the whole place for us and not just the small room. We also use accordingly. We sleep in the living room and have breakfast on the balcony. Since it is a kept real.

Then we make a trip to Montjuic, the mountain is the Barcelona, right on the edge of town and the sea. From there we have really great views over the city and the port, which is really impressive, because that is pretty big. Montjuic is to relax optimal. The whole mountain is dotted with parks, that's where you really from park to park, there is a swimming pool, from which one can look down on the city while you're in the water and on top of the summit is the Castell de Montjuic, an old fortress . The arrival is something special. Barceloneta (the tip, the jutting into the sea) is from a cable car to Montjuic and then a gondola to the summit. We drive but with the Metro to a cable-hauled train and then take the little cable car, because we are not sure know whether the other drives. Then we hike to the summit around the castle, enjoy the view, the calm and the sun. Miles away we discover authorize a pretty cool bar and we deserved a San Miguel (which is really good). Down we go from the cable car over a few gardens to the National Museum (at the foot of the Montjuic Espanya Pl) and do not look at the Font Magica. The fountain is always listed at the weekend a Wasser-/Licht-/Musikspektakel. Well, except Sundays, so will not. Never mind, was still a great day.

Día de la Hispanidad

This time (12.10.) The discovery of America by Christopher Columbus is celebrated.

Das Raim ist eine urige kubanische Bar mit great atmosphere in which it is pretty full evening. (Tip)

Short information about Gracia.
Gracia was originally a separate city, but was in the 19th Century Barcelona incorporated by between the old and Gracia have built Eixample district, an incredible urban project for this time. Since we live right now too. The individual parts of the city, I describe another time exactly.

That's the holiday.

Speaking holiday, not only of the Día Hispanidad is celebrated today, but also El Pilar . The Virgin of Pilar, the patron saint of Hispanidad.

Gracia and the Parque de Ciutadella are really a Besuch wert, auch die Altstadt von Barcelona.

The sequence of steps looks easier than it is. A few steps to the left and right, and then quickly walk back and forth, and ... more information wens interest here. For this purpose a small orchestra was playing. The Catalans dance the Sardana on festivals or on Sundays before church. It was great to see above all that all age groups have mitgetanzt. Very young and very old. And above all, it was not a tourist attraction, but simply because they wanted to dance.

Sardana

Sardana dance

then I'm still in the streets of the Barrio rumgeschlendert Born - beautiful. Then I am already on the way back made. After all was in my street today announced Concert - Travis. And for free. I then sat and thought, I dare not run my eyes. They just blocked an intersection in the middle of residential area and a giant stage set up. And it was pandemonium. I've then tried to wade German and coincidentally with Erasmus students Getoff that I know of the first week. I then stayed with them and we have had a few half, and the concert is a member.

That's the second so Day.
The third I will take things more calmly, and because the weather was still used to go to the beach. Then in the evening musical was announced fireworks. In the square outside the Catalan National Museum (Held at the famous fountain, in which in the summer, the fountain-light games) should be a fireworks display with rock / pop music. Accordingly, it was the crowds. Was absolutely the hit. Played them all and have actually been shot to match the fireworks. In between then, most of the audience lighters and sparklers have dressed. Was really nice.
Not so nice was the way back, you want to take any course at the same time and that after the peak with Robbie Williams and "Let Me Entertain You" and pretty much Gekrache. The metro station was right and so I am drawn to the current direction of the city center. Thought but very smart guy, I am rather diagonally upward Consider the way home and then a Metro station determines find. It was not so - and about three-quarters of an hour later I was at home - on foot, diagonally across half Barcelona. I'm still geskyped with my loved ones and fell exhausted into bed.

Well, that was the festivals de la Mercé - I can only recommend.

But the barrios are beautiful even without hard. It is worthwhile making a tour of Barcelona. Suggestions you can find at www.paseo-barcelona.de

Festival de la Mercé (1) - Cycling in Barcelona Correfoc

This weekend will be held in Barcelona, Festes de la Mercé, a 4-day city festival in honor of the patron saint of the city.

caution Culture: The
Senyora de la Mercé has become the patron saint of the city after they had defended the city in 1637 alone against a plague of locusts. 1714, when Barcelona lost the English War of Succession, the city elders appointed to commander of the city's defense.

The festival is held during the week of 24.9. (The holiday) and is held as the highlight of the festival year and would say with a loud bang in the summer farewell. Here are hundreds of different activities throughout the city. The highlights are:

  • Correfoc or Fire Run
dragons, monsters and devils with fireworks and run giant sparklers along the streets and dance with the audience (several of them)
  • Castellers - is to build human towers
towers of human tradition and I have recently seen practicing at the university has a group. For those interested, more details here. Castellers de Barcelona
  • Capgrossos - Parade of the Giant Colossal Giant
with figures of kings and nobles, accompanied by music
  • Sardenas
A English folk dance, in which the participants hold in their hands and turn in circles.
  • music Grupen
In the city built platforms and local and international bands appear. eg: Ojos de Brujo, Travis or Robocop Kraus

The Festival is really a kind of street festival überdimesnionales - something for everyone.

I did this weekend storm, and may be let out right now to sow. Just unfortunately, I still know no one with whom I can draw around the houses. But I would still see the festival on Saturday night and go to Correfoc. Is supposed to be pretty good. Because it is overcast all day and I think, in the evening may be cool, I pull at times exceptionally ne jacket. So I take the nearest metro and moving into the old town, where the fire run to start right then. Of course, all hell is going on. Many young people, old people and children, which is normal for the little ones a long time to are. The move ha not started yet and I go along the road and find me a nice place. Stop thinking that the process is just like us, all standing at the roadside and watch the train, just stop here with fireworks and stuff. That is why it is called everywhere, we should tighten things and long hair shooters. Just be careful.

excerpt from the program:

Warning: The Fire Run can be dangerous and everyone is responsible for themselves. To dance with the "devils" you need to wear clothes Which cover you well. ... Children seeing the fire run for the first time can become freightened, and so they should not stand in the front rows. ... "

I then stroll the Via Laetina up at the place where to start. Everywhere I look at my people, masquerading, with balaclavas, hats, scarves, long resistant jackets, gloves. So really bundled up, that only the eyes still look out. Even a little bit exaggerated I think. On top of the square, we go off. Everything is full of people and in front you can see forever spray fire and fireworks. The whole street is lined with people and I am looking for a place in the curve where the train einbiegt from the square in the street. Then it starts!

And now I see first how this works. The train is not like us down the road, but for a way through the people. There are running around "devil" and other figures, waving the fireworks and spray with the spark in the people and the spectators run toward them and dance with them under the shower of sparks. Madness. Then again komt a drum band or a monster that spits fire. You can not really imagine what is going on. Everything is raging, if the fire comes. Big, small, young, old - all storm the figures or even the devils dance in the rain of sparks. 'm Dressed, unfortunately, wrong and therefore remain on the margins, which does not mean that I'm not sure. Now and again it is in coverage or the hair is singed.

The spectacle takes place so about 1.5 km and 2 hours. Sometimes, one feels as in the days of chaos. If I come down the road look, I see it explode everywhere and only sparks, then up, at the next monster or the next drum squad, the last I agree with him and dance down the street.

After the spectacle I still strolling around weng in the old town and see me on the Placa Reial at a concert. As I said, the whole town is on alert.

So who is planning a city trip times to Barcelona should perhaps come to a party. It is really worth.

Today I look at me a Sardena and perhaps the Travis concert. I can sleep in tomorrow - bank holiday.

If you have like this, look you the old quarter of Barcelona. Guided tours are at it www.paseo-barcelona.de

The city this week adopted rules for cycling. For violation of Rules 30 € will be collected Busgeld.

preliminary should perhaps be noted that cycling is not as popular here as at home. In order to promote the city has "Bicing" made up. Since you can log in and then use public bicycles. There are places in town where you can pick up the bike and off to another back. Good idea arrives also very good.

And so now the rules.

Bicycle racks are not enough.

I am really very happy, this has no wheel, though would come in handy. But I have too many rules I can not remember me without a rule book. I take the subway or just my legs.

How To Tell If Your Rook Piercing Is Infected

11th September - Diada (Catalan national holiday)

Today on 11 September is yes, but when you Antiterrortag, a holiday with us - Diada, the Catalan National Day.

The story behind it is a bit complicated, but I explain briefly - A bit of history you no harm. Celebrated

is not about independence, as elsewhere, but a defeat. On 11/09/1714 occupied Philip V, after fourteen months' siege of Barcelona and put an end to the autonomy, ie, by the Decree de Nueva Planta was the political independence and lost the use of the Catalan language was prohibited. Catalonia was so completely with Spain.

is celebrated, of course, not the loss of freedom, but the hope for a full "national resistance production". Since the end of Franco's dictatorship, this is being driven, so the traffic signs were back in Catalan installed, education and everyday language is Catalan and Catalan are promoted (My Catalan course is free, while my English 140, - costs). The University may choose the language they do indeed still be international, but many courses are in Catalan. Not so good for me.
My opinion: I would not bet that Catalonia is a part of Spain forever.

That's it, now to my day:
Since today is still free, I sleep in and go right to the beach at noon, because really there is cloudless blue sky and sunshine. The girls are already gone. The beach is of course packed. Volume up pretty girls and muscle-bound Jungs, die ihnen imponieren wollen.

The police have actually even taken off their caps and helmets raised. And I stand there, right in the middle, and in flip flops and beach bag. And without my demonstration paving stone I'm always in the car if time is what (Have used it only on holidays on a campsite to pat herring). And times when I really want, he is not there. Note: Demonstration cobblestone take forever, you never know. The whole thing is then shifted to one side, because the event was and were escorted from the Kundgebler into a side street of the place and the Demnonstranten also went in the direction to adopt them. Have then found a better standing room and saw that the older Kundgebler especially People, especially women had been derived from the demonstrators adopted now work together kissing and waving of stretch but got only middle finger and whistles. No idea whether a party or something was. Shall I buy tomorrow is even a scandal sheet, as determined in it was.

On the way to the subway I saw then that the police had apparently expected more conflict, for numerous armored cars were distributed with special forces in wait and paramedics all over the place. The English police well known, not the sort to be squeamish.

That's it from holiday.
